That Old Chestnut 'God'

Comments on "Intelligence begot atheism"

ďA psychology researcher has controversially claimed that stupidity is causally linked to how likely people are to believe in God.  University of Ulster professor Richard Lynn will draw the conclusion in new research due to be published in the journal Intelligence, the Times Higher Education Supplement reports.

Lynn and his two co-authors argue that average IQ is an excellent predictor of what proportion of the population are true believers, across 137 countries. They also cite surveys of the US Academy of Sciences and UK Royal Academy showing single-digit rates of religious belief among academics.

That professional skeptics don't believe in a creator is perhaps not all that surprising. Lynn argues, however, that it is their intelligence that directly gives rise to the boffinated classes' non-God-bothering tendencies. He said: "Why should fewer academics believe in God than the general population? I believe it is simply a matter of the IQ. Academics have higher IQs than the general population."

Lynn pointed out that most children do believe in God, but as their intelligence develops they tend to have doubts or reject religion. Similarly, as average IQ in Western societies increased through the 20th century, so did rates of atheism, he said.

The researchers' claims of a direct causal link have drawn criticism from others in intelligence research, who argue their conclusions are too simplistic. London Metropolitan University's Dr David Hardman said: "It is very difficult to conduct true experiments that would explicate a causal relationship between IQ and religious belief. Nonetheless, there is evidence from other domains that higher levels of intelligence are associated with a greater ability - or perhaps willingness - to question and overturn strongly felt intuitions."

We must be careful in the definition of 'God'. Do not be mistaken and equate it with the valid Emanating Forces of Cosmos. On being presented with the word 'God', I think most people would agree with the idea of the creature spewed up by the minds of patriarchal peoples.  It, of course, is cocooned and fed by the scriptural religions that are slavishly followed even in the present century.

These religions have the 'words' supposedly transmited from their God to the prophets, although no one but the prophets heard the message which was perpetuated with the constant bleating, "Thus saith the Lord".  What the prophets meant, if they had been honest, was that they heard a voice in their heads, i.e. an auditory hallucination. So they were either

1. suffering a symptom of insanity
2. suffering the side effects of a medication/herbal decoction     or the effects of a cerebral neoplasm.
3. they were liars having heard no divine voice but attempted
an opportunistic exercise of hoodwinking superstitious and
simple people into accepting their form of a religion, thus
guaranteeing for themselves a damned good living.
Voltaire placed this whole concept into a nut-shell when he said: "Religion began when the first scoundrel (i.e. prophet, priest, mystic) met the first fool (mug, sucker)." Italics mine.

The bottom line is this - these so-called prophets and inventors of their own personal 'religions' and agendas were what I call spiritual terrorists.  However, unlike the terrorists of the present century who create havock in blood and death, these spiritual terrorists were the genesis of negative superstitious scenarios that infected the minds of individuals and the history & sociology of communities and nations.  These quagmires of fantasy persist to the present day to contaminate international religio-political climates.

And from these religio-political seed-grounds of opportunistic lies, with ancient insidious and malignant roots of millennia embedded in the group minds of peoples and nations, comes the contemporary terrorist who is hell-bent on reinforcing with secterian violence, intefadas and jihads the same hoary falsehoods that issued from long dead swindlers and confidence tricksters!

Proscribe scriptural patriarchal religions and the world will know peace.

  • From a work by John Bale - 'Acta Romanorum Pontificum' which was first translated from Latin into English as 'The Pageant of the Popes' in 1574:

  • "For on a time when a cardinall Bembus did move a question out of the Gospell, the Pope   gave him a very contemptuous answer saying: 'All ages can testifie enough howe profitable that fable of Christe hath ben to us and our companie'."

  • It was Pope Leo X who made this most infamous and damaging statement about Christianity in the history of the Church. His declaration revealed to the world papal knowledge of the Vatican's false presentation of Jesus Christ and unashamedly exposed the puerile nature of the Christian religion.  At a lavish Good Friday banquet in the Vatican in 1514, and in the company of "seven intimates" (A n n a l e s Ecclesiastici, Caesar Baronius, Folio Antwerp, 1597, tome 14), Leo made an amazing announcement that the Church has since tried hard to invalidate.

"Raising a chalice of wine into the air, Pope Leo toasted: "How well we know what a profitable superstition this fable of Christ has been for us and our predecessors. The pope's pronouncement is recorded in the diaries and records of both Pietro Cardinal Bembo (Letters and Comments on Pope Leo X , 1842 reprint) and Paolo Cardinal Giovio (De Vita Leonis Decimi..., op. cit.), two associates who were witnesses to it.  Caesar (Cardinal) Baronius (1538-1607) was Vatican librarian for seven years and wrote a 12-volume history of the Church, known as Annales Ecclesiastici. He was the Church's most outstanding historian (Catholic Encyclopedia, New Edition, 1976, ii, p. 105) and his records provide vital inside information for anybody studying the rich depth of falsification in Christianity.  Cardinal Baronius, who turned down two offers to become pope in 1605, added the following comments about Pope Leo's  declaration:-

"The Pontiff has been accused of atheism, for he denied God and called Christ, in front of cardinals Pietro Bembo, Jovius and Iacopo Sadoleto and other intimates, 'a fable' . It must be corrected".(Annales Ecclesiastici, op. cit., tomes viii and xi) This event evidently had The Church running scared lest anyone questioned the viability of such a pseudo-religion.

Throughout the millennia it is surprising that few ever questioned the fact that no other person(s) heard the message from God or saw it written down by a supernatural hand. Even today we find innumerable rabbis, priests and imams (the so-called intelligent[?] functional leaders of Judaism, Christianity and Islam respectively) still blindly believing this antiquated garbage.

Nevertheless if one is locked into an effectively fossilized mind-set of childhood indoctrination and brainwashing this is quite understandable.  Remember the dangerous but revealing maxim: "Unless ye are converted and become as little children, ye will not at all enter into the kingdom of the heavens."  (Matthew 18:3)  This perpetuates a childlike belief in such things and the acceptance of the centuries old lies from their trusted elders.   Those who are excluded, of course, are free-thinking adults.

So yes, the higher one's intelligence, the greater should be one's ability to analyse as a fairly competent albeit amateur metaphysician and realise that one may anthropomorphise the Emanating Forces and make one's own deities - female and male, I may add. These will be inspired by Divine Emanation in Nature in varying degrees and should be categorised and commensurate with the contemporary position of evolving cosmic life.  In this way we are moved to create Deities in our image for our purposes but at all times remembering that these Deities merit proper respect, veneration and gratitude for our existence.

Perhaps it is time to examine the erroneous statement by relgionists down the ages that all spirituality comes from the East (meaning the global region whence flowed the poisonous rivers of Judaism, Christianity and Islam).   Oh yes, I include Judaism, as although it appears to be simply an innocuous record of Jewish history, social structure & law, sprinkled with their poetic offerings, it contains the many exemplars where those swindlers shouted loudly the lie, "Hear ye, Israel - hear what the Lord speaketh"!  Then they encouraged the people to ethnically cleanse territory after territory, recording the fine details of the kings overthrown, the murder of men, women & children but how they were commanded to spare the cattle! (vide The Hebrew Scriptures, especially Genesis & Exodus.)

The hidden yet simple truth is that all spiritual enlightenment, inner vision & illumination and the strength & control of emotions governing rectitude in human character comes from He Who is seen to greet us daily from an Easterly direction - The Sun God, the Solar Prince of Light and illuminator of the mind.

Should this understanding of scriptural religions become the norm, the patriarchal posturing, aggression and slaughter still fomented by these outdated unipolar pseudo-religions would then be seen to dissipate like a threatening cloud in an azure sky and we might find ourselves in a totally cosmated society with all that this implies.  Perhaps those of a 'pagan' outlook could then be termed spiritual atheists.  Now there is a paradox.................................... (or is it)?!
